As we begin this journey together, I pray.
Often I am asked does prayer really make a difference? Doesn’t God already know what we need and isn’t He always looking out for the best outcome for us.
A mentor of mine once told me that “Prayer is a privilege.” It is our privilege to come before the Father with our prayers and petitions.
“Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.” James 4:2
But everyone who has prayed, has asked, and not received, right?
Well, you know you ask but sometimes the answer is no because well, God is always looking out for your best interest.
After this circular logic I am siding with the “Why pray?” argument.
I pray anyway. I ask, “Father, what does prayer got to do with it?”
The answer comes to me in the parable about the brides waiting on their groom. Some are prepared with plenty of oil, some are lacking oil when the groom comes. While they are gone getting more oil, the groom comes and the brides that are prepared go with him.
Later the others knock on the groom’s door, “Master, master open up.”
“But He replied, ‘Truly, I tell you… I do not know you.'” Matthew 25:12
