The second component of Super Health is Sunshine! Treat the inside with good fuel and treat the outside with a healthy dose of daily sunshine. We all need a daily dose of sunshine on our skin, not filtered by sunblock. However, pigmentation of your skin affects how much Ultraviolet-B rays your body will absorb. And studies show you need more exposure as you age but will probably be getting less.
Sunshine reacts with your skin to produce Vitamin D. Vitamin D helps regulate absorption of calcium and phosphorus, helps the immune system function, and effects as many as 2,000 genes in your body according Healthline.com.
Medical News Today suggests Vitamin D provides a “protective effect against multiple diseases and conditions such as cancer, type 1 diabetes and multiple sclerosis.”
How much sunshine you need is difficult to say. The pigmentation of your skin, the more skin exposed, and the time of day and year all contribute to the amount of UV-B rays that your skin will react with. The lighter your skin the less time in the sun you need without cover. Avoid burning your skin but don’t be afraid to enjoy a daily dose of sunshine.
The vinyl-coated foam floating mat I use is available on Amazon… click through the link below for your convenience. Disclosure: Affiliate links on this page are of products I actually use and recommend. Your click throughs are greatly appreciated!!
I recommend a vinyl-coated foam mat for floating on the lake or the pool. For several decades we have camped on rocky lake shores and have experimented with many types of floats and repair kits. The vinyl-coated foam mat may seem like an expensive mat at first but it will provide you with years of enjoyment. My original vinyl-coated foam mat has latest since the early 1980’s when I was first introduced to them. None of the inflatable mats survived. You can throw these mats out of the boat onto shore and do not have to worry that they will pop. The dog can float on them with you… even if their claws make a small tear they don’t lose their ability to float.
Thanks for reading my blog. Tomorrow I’ll post #3 of the 5 components of Super Health. See you then!
