The fourth component of Super Health is water.
Ever wonder why you feel so good around a waterfall? Moving water increases the negative ions in the air and when inhaled helps increase production of our mood altering neurotransmitter, serotonin. Serotonin uptake in the brain lowers stress, alleviates depression, and increases vitality.
According to USGS Water Science School, our bodies are made up of 60 percent water; with the brain and heart being composed of 73 percent water and the lungs 83 percent. That’s a lot of water. Every body system requires water to function. The average human being needs at least 64 ounces of water per day to maintain those functions. That is the equivalent of 8 glasses of 8 ounces of water per day not including the additional water you may need for exercise, certain environmental conditions, and losses due to illnesses, health conditions, or breastfeeding and pregnancy.
About 20 percent of the water you need can come from food, such as fruits and other hydrated foods. But don’t forget your daily doses of pure refreshing water. Some studies now suggest that drinking 4-6 glasses of 8 ounces of water in the morning, then waiting 45 minutes before eating, a process called water therapy, can help alleviate symptoms, even cure, headaches, arthritis, diabetes, ENT (ear, nose, and throat) diseases, obesity, and tuberculosis.
If you wait until you are thirsty to reach for a drink of water, you’ve waited too long. Thirst is a sign that your body is already dehydrated and even mild dehydration can lead to trouble.
The Journal of Nutrition reports that mild dehydration affects our mood, decreases energy, and causes difficulty concentrating. Lack of hydration causes premature aging in your skin which is made up of 20% water.
Make pure, refreshing water your drink of choice and consider all other types of drinks a “snack.” Drinking 8 ounces of water between each meal and with each meal will not only help you get your daily dose of H2O (48 ounces of water) but nutrition experts say it will help you with weight control.
My water comes from my well so I use a filter. It’s really hard and full of lime but it’s free as long as the well is working. I have a water filter on my tap and double filter at the refrigerator. Before I had my fridge hooked up to the water line, I used a water filter pitcher and kept it cold in the fridge.
That water filters that I use are available on Amazon… click through the link above for your convenience. Disclosure: Affiliate links on this page are of products I actually use and recommend. Your click throughs are greatly appreciated!!
